Periodontology

Periodontology is a branch of dentistry specializing in the treatment of diseases of the periodontium and oral mucosa. Untreated periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss through vertical and horizontal bone loss and may also contribute to the development of general diseases, especially heart disease. Regular periodontal control combined with planned prophylaxis is of key importance for maintaining the health of the whole organism.

Periodontology

Periodontology is a branch of dentistry that focuses on the prevention and treatment of diseases of the periodontium and oral mucosa. These diseases are increasingly common in society and cause tooth loss in adults. They attack the tissue surrounding the tooth, such as the gums, periodontal ligaments, alveolar bone and root cementum.

We diagnose and treat various diseases and conditions occurring in the oral mucosa and periodontium. If you experience bleeding gums, tooth hypersensitivity, exposure of the tooth neck, unpleasant odor from the mouth or react to changes in temperature, it is worth consulting with us.

Periodontitis

Chronic periodontitis, or periodontitis, is a bacterial disease that attacks the periodontal tissues, leading to severe inflammation in the mouth and loss of connective tissue attachment and bone. The causative factor of the disease are bacteria, the appearance of which is associated with poor oral hygiene and inadequate tooth brushing.

Periodontitis has a number of symptoms:

  • bleeding and swelling of the gums,
  • exposure of tooth necks,
  • tooth displacement
  • unpleasant odor from the mouth

The treatment of periodontitis consists in systematic oral hygiene, removal of deposits from the teeth, and in the case of advanced disease, hygienisation, scaling and curettage procedures performed by the dentist.

We provide a full range of periodontal disease treatment.

  1. Conservative treatment performed by a doctor and continued in maintenance therapy by a dental hygienist.
  2. PET diagnostics for the presence of periodontal pathogens. This study enables the implementation of targeted treatment in cases resistant to conventional treatment.
  3. Surgical treatment, including resection and restorative procedures. We use a wide range of bone replacement materials and assisted regeneration, e.g. enamel matrix proteins.
  4. Surgical treatment of gingival recessions (“receding gums”).
  5. Surgical preparation of teeth for prosthetic treatment (e.g. correction of the “gummy smile”, lengthening of clinical crowns of teeth).
  6. Plastic surgery procedures around the implants ensuring a fully natural end result of the treatment.

During the treatment, we use both conventional and technologically advanced methods, such as a diode laser, which is used both in conservative and surgical treatment.

Gingival recessions

Gingival recession is a common problem when the gum recedes, exposing the root of the tooth and leading to sensitivity and infection. The reasons include poor oral hygiene, smoking and teeth grinding. Symptoms include hypersensitivity, pain and receding gums. Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the disease, but may include hygienic treatments, repair of fillings, and correction of the frenulum.

Curettage

Curettage is a method of treating periodontal diseases, consisting in the thorough removal of pathological gingival pockets and the tooth root by the dentist. We remove inflammatory granulation tissue and bacterial clusters using special dental tools, such as a curette . Such a procedure is recommended primarily for patients in whom traditional methods of removing tartar are not effective. We perform curettage when there is advanced gingivitis or periodontal disease.

There are three types of curettage :

  • open,
  • closed,
  • laser.
