Recommendations for patients using removable dentures
Keeping your dentures clean is as important to oral hygiene as brushing and flossing your teeth.
- Brush your dentures daily with a hard-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste or mild soap. At the same time, your own teeth should be brushed with a medium-hard toothbrush.
- The prosthesis should be removed at night and stored in a dry place.
- Once a month, leave your dentures in the descaling solution overnight.
- Once a week, leave the prosthesis in a solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide in the ratio of 1 tablespoon to 0.5 cup of water for 15 minutes.
- Once every 6 months, dentures should be professionally hygienized and disinfected in a dental office.
Due to the pressure of the denture plate on the gum, bone atrophy occurs, which results in the denture settling too deeply or protruding from the gum. In this situation, go to the dentist to:
- Relining the prosthesis, i.e. filling the resulting space with acrylic
- Making a new prosthesis when relining is no longer possible
How often should dentures be replaced?
Settling (acrylic) dentures should be replaced at least every 5 years. Non-settling and partially settling (skeleton) dentures are replaced after the dentist’s order.
IN CASE OF DAMAGE TO THE DENSE, GO TO THE DENTIST IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT REPAIR THE PROSTHESIS WITH HOME METHODS OR USE IT!
